Insight from a Previous Intern
My experience as a Marketing Intern at Vinson Hall Retirement Community has been amazing. I've enjoyed seeing a side of healthcare I never thought I'd see. I love coming in to work and walking down the hallways because everyone is so friendly and I love talking to the residents. I've learned from the various departments about strong leadership and collaborating to make sure the different departments are effectively working together. I will miss Vinson Hall when I go back to school!

As an intern for Administrative Services, I was given the opportunity to work on many different tasks and projects here at Vinson Hall Retirement Community. The Administrative Services department has been welcoming and willing to give me additional training on things I am interested in. My preceptor gave me the opportunity to work on projects and to share my ideas on best approaches. Now, I have a better understanding of healthcare organization and the ways different departments collaborate. I also appreciate that my preceptor was willing to work with my busy schedule. This internship has given me valuable hands-on experience that I can use after graduating.
--Farzana Haque, undergraduate in Health Administration at George Mason University.Administrative internship, summer 2023
My internship at VHRC was a truly heartwarming experience. From the moment I stepped into the community, I was greeted with smiles that radiated warmth and genuine kindness from everyone. The residents welcomed me into their homes with open arms, sharing their stories, wisdom, and laughter. Staff members were as equally kind as they were helpful with getting me acquainted with the community. The connections I formed were deeply fulfilling, whether it was engaging in meaningful conversations at the marketing desk, participating in group activities that sparked laughter and camaraderie, or with attendees of my Lifestyle Redesign sessions. The atmosphere at VHRC was one of belonging and mutual respect, where every individual was valued and cherished. I will forever treasure the profound life lessons I learned during my internship, as they have shaped me into a more compassionate and empathetic future clinician.

Being an intern at Vinson Hall Retirement Community has provided me the opportunity to take the theoretical concepts I have learned in the classroom and put them to practical use working on the electronic health record at VHRC. My preceptor, the Director of Nursing, has been a truly impactful guide in this process. She explains concepts well, connects me with individuals who can answer questions pertaining to the Matrix Care software, she gives me the freedom to present my ideas, and respects and supports my decisions. VHRC provided me with my first corporate world experience. I was able to work in a nice environment, with excellent team mates. I would enjoy continuing to work at VHRC.

I completed my student internship at Vinson Hall Retirement Community during the fall semester of my senior year college. During that period, I shadowed multiple management positions, including senior executives. This exposure not only provided me with different managerial perspectives but also provided first-hand knowledge to take into my first post-college job in the senior living field. The positive experience and influential relationships I built during that time led me back to VHRC two years later where I took on the role of their Independent Living Marketing Counselor.
